Charis Ioannou


Charis Ioannou is a graduate of the Berklee College of Music in Boston where he studied saxophone Jazz composition and performance. During the last year of his studies he won the Woodwind Achievement Award. He continued with a master’s degree from the New York University and at the same time appeared and taught in the wider State of New York. Since his return to Cyprus he is an active member and one of the most dedicated musicians of the Cyprus music scene. He counts numerous collaborations worldwide, at important festivals, jazz clubs, and music halls. In 2015 he led BopCy band and won the 2nd place at the First National Jazz Contest held in Athens. In 2016 he released the album Bridge of Locks with Ioannis Vafeas Quartet. Since 2009 he has been working as Assistant Professor at the University of Nicosia while continuing to perform in Cyprus and abroad.
